Our members are the driving force of this whole organisation. We are built for and by residents of Svalbard. We are here to help the amazing people who live here embrace the challenges involved in inhabiting this unique place and truly love to live here!
We are a group of people who embrace one another with compassion and care. We are committed to helping each other through difficult times and to building each other up along with building resilience within ourselves.
Our membership is open to all residents of Svalbard, regardless of things like your citizenship, gender, religious affiliation, language, job, or situation. We also have a very low yearly membership fee to make sure our membership is accessible for everyone.
We are first and foremost a community project and we are entirely community funded. We are deeply invested and embedded in the community of Longyearbyen and we are working to partner with the local community at each chance we get.
We are committed to ensuring we offer what our members and the residents of Svalbard truly need.
We aim to create spaces for residents to interact with one another in a relatable and human way, and to ensure spaces for people to feel seen and heard. To do this, we plan to organise regularly occurring events as well as host and arrange periodic or yearly workshops.
Some examples of what we are looking into are:
We will also plan to offer support for smaller, more tailored events that may be aimed at sub-groups or specific challenges, based on member wishes. The aim is to focus on building better relationships and connections among the community and among members.
As mentioned, we are also working to host and arrange periodic or yearly workshops, as well as one-time lectures, where we will invite specialists or experts regarding mental health topics. The aim will always be to improve confidence, develop skills, and build competence in respective psychological areas. This could include workshops/lectures, for example, with focus on skills such as making SMART goals or creating a Prepardness Plan (Forebyggingsplan)- or a focus on learning about nutrition, cognitive effects of the dark season, health rights in the workplace, etc.
By becoming a member now, you can help impact the direction and offerings, and help build the foundation of this organisation!
